  • LPU President elected PACU President

    MR. PETER P. LAUREL, President of the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in Batangas, was elected President of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU) for FY 2010-2012. With this new appointment, Laurel will be leading the oldest educational organization in the Philippines that is PACU,as he continuously leads Region IV’s first autonomous university with schoolwide international certification (ISO 9001:2008) that is LPU Batangas. PACU aims to foster greater collaboration and new partnership within and outside the education community to help colleges and universities anticipate and address the challenges of the times and contribute to nation building. It speaks as private higher education voice in matters of public policy and provides vital programs, information and forum for dialogue on key issues. Under Laurel ’s leadership, PACU will continuously uphold its vision of nation-building through transformative private education in a deregulated environment for the global Filipino. Laurel , together with the rest of the elected officers and the member higher education institutions (HEIs), is in full support of PACU’s mission to recognize education’s responsibility to society – access to relevant and quality education. Other elected PACU officers were: Dr. Patricia B. Lagunda of Baliuag University as 1st Vice President; Rev. Fr. Gregorio L. Bañaga, Jr., CM of Adamson University as 2nd Vice President; Prof. Dhanna Kerina B. Rodas of University of Baguio as Secretary; and Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea of Mapua Institute of Technology as Treasurer. Laurel ’s father, the late Senator Sotero H. Laurel, also served as PACU President from 1963 to 1965.

  • LPU Dean presents research paper in US

    Mrs. Roselie B. Alday, Dean of the College of Computer Studies of the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in Batangas, presented her research co-authored with Mrs. Alona Panaligan entitled, “Effects of E-Learning in Mathematics to College Students: The Philippine Experience” in the 21st Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education (SITE) International Conference, San Diego, California, USA. Alday’s research sought to determine the effects of e-learning in analytic geometry and find out if it can lessen the common fear of students in learning Mathematics.

  • LPU researchers cop platinum awards

    Lyceum of the Philippines University (Batangas) researchers Dr. Reynalda Base - Garcia, LPU Research Director; and Dr. Anacleta Pring - Valdez, LPU College of Allied Medical Professions Dean, both won the Platinum Prize for “Best Presentation in Research Experiences” category in the Philippine Association of Institutions for Research (PAIR) National Conference for Quality Assurance in International Journal Publications and Sustainable Research Development held at Our Lady of Fatima University, Valenzuela City. Dr. Garcia presented “Research Strategies for Transformation of Research Culture” while Dr. Valdez shared her experiences in the “Management of National and International Research Congress”. Valdez also “won an International Research Advocacy Award” in a recent PAIR international research forum. Ms. Analie Patena , LPU statistician and CEAS faculty, also actively participated in the said forum. The conference, attended by delegates from different universities in the country, was graced by some notable figures in the field of business and education like: Dr. Isagani Cruz, Past President of the Philippine Fulbright Association, for “ Philippine Higher Education Research: Issues and Problems” ; Dr. Lily Garcia, Director IV, Office of Quality Management, CHED Central Office for “Research Capacity & Productivity as Quality Indicators: some Experiences from CHED”; Dr. Allan Benedict Bernardo, Dela Salle University VP for Research, for “The Emergent Global Model of Research Universities: Implications for Research and Publication Practices of Philippine colleges and Universities”; and Dr. Ruben Umaly, Secretary General of the University of Asia and the Pacific and VP for Research, University of Cordilleras, for “ Internationalization of Philippine Research”; and other university administrators and researchers. The conference was hosted jointly by PAIR (led by Dr. Genaro V. Japos, President), Our Lady of Fatima University, Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), Liceo de Cagayan University, University of Cordillera, in coordination with CHED (Commission on Higher Education).

  • CALLING ALL LYCEANS! LET US SUPPORT THE ANTI-PIRACY ONLINE PETITION!

    As a university with maritime programs and an institution advocating the protection and safety of maritime personnel worldwide, let us support the campaign of the Associated Maritime Officers’ and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP), an affiliate of the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF), to embark on an online e-petition to bring focus to the issue of sea piracy especially in the Gulf of Eden, a vital thoroughfare of ocean going vessels. Victims of piracy include Filipino seafarers who man 30% of the worldwide fleet. The aim of the campaign is to gather one million signatures / registration and to present this to the appropriate governing bodies to find a lasting solution to the problem of the region.
